The structure of our traditional houses are eco-housing that chimes in with our nature and climate. Though it is certain that there are difficulties to get this structure applied generally, it is worth to look into this structure which silently  teaches us how to co-exist with nature.

All human beings are born from earth and they go back to it arger they die. The idea of environmentally friendly architecture currently rising among the western countries, was already been practiced in the east. The main concept of this idea is creating a place where human beings co-exist with nature. It is time for us to look for the things we have abandoned.

The ultimate goal of eco-housing is to build a building which reflect our lives, designed with care for people one by one and as a whole, and for the mode of lives of the next generation as well as protecting the environment and preserving energy. The basic concern of eco-housing should be human beings and should be designed to maintain high level of physical and spiritual life of them.

Eco-housing may start from figuring out and revising things that we have been missing out in the usual building construction. Ineffectively, the existing buildings are not designed to use the natural energy we can get. They are designed to isolate the inner area. Further more, they are designed to waste. There is no counter plan at the moment for the wastes after using electricity and water.

However, the eco-housing system designed to be sensitive in protecting environment. It is an independent system without affecting the environment, and uses natural energy to the utmost. Recently, many farmers in the countryside use soil as septic tanks to reuse feces and urine as a fertilizer. Reusing human waste as a fertilizer is what our ancestors did. It is worthy to think over their lifestyle again.

When we look at Gudle, we can see it is the only structure in the world which idealistically combines heating system and dining system. Though there is a structure called Kang which belong to the Han people of China, it is different from Korean Gudle. Different from Gudle, Kang is a part of lifestyle of stand-up culture. Gudle combines heating and dining. Except the few Gudles which only has fireplace just providing the heating system, most of the Gudles provide both systems together.

While we were busy modernizing our society, we lost an important and valuable system of lifestyle we had as we went for things that looked new and pretty. As a result, we have been constructing numerous things which have not been friendly to us or our nature.

The value of an architecture is equal to the value of the person's life living in it. and the both of them can be understood as one whole culture. Though we are facing a risk for our environments, there will be no renovation if the people living in it do not notice it. What is important is to regain the cultural values of the architecture, and this ca n be done only when people pay attention and show concern to where they live. Everyone should know that the eco-housings in Germany and Japan are not build in a day.

We should be curious how it was possible for Japanese people to build a model house of eco-houses out of people's taxes and experimentally allowed people to live in them. We should also ask what were the role that japanese people played to make such houses come to reality and ask ourselves if we are doing anything close to it.

It is time to pay attention to Gudle, our traditional structure and ideal of eco-housing.
